HOMEWARES

Homewares have evolved enormously and yet also, hardly at all. Some vintage and antique pieces are every bit as usable and ingenious as they ever were. Others are often given a new lease of life as decoration or repurposed for a new generation.

JAMES DIXON & SON SILVER PLATED SUGAR BOWL AND CREAMER C1920

James Dixon & Son were one of the foremost silversmiths and manufacturer of silver plate, britannia metal and Sheffield plate of the 19th century - founded in 1806 and not dissolved until 1980! This is a lovely example of a part tea-set, the sugar bowl and creamer with full manufacturers and model marks on the base. Some wear marks to the bowl but otherwise in overall clean excellent condition. Judged to be c1920 from the marks, it's on the cusp between Edwardian elegance and the dawn of the Deco movement. Its classic lines means it could easily dress out a Regency or Early Victorian tea table. Both pieces 4" high to the tops of the handles. £38

STUNNING LARGE MULTI-COLOURED MURANO VASE WITH FLUTED TOP

A sumptuous decorator's piece, this multicoloured marbled Murano glass vase is a statement piece standing at 37cm high. Solid, heavy and shot through with blues, greens, browns and reds, it should compliment plenty of interior styles but would look wonderful in a mid-century setting. This is a wonderful piece of Art Deco décor for your home! A triple flower sconce of stylish stepped frosted glass set into a chrome plated base. In excellent overall condition, no chips or cracks to the glass and only light wear to the plating as you might expect. 1960S PINK ART GLASS VASE

This would look fab in any modern or mid-century home. A good weighty glass vase just 6” high and with a lovely swirl pattern inside the glass and a sanded pontil mark on the bottom. No chips, cracks or restoration. £40

GORGEOUS LATE VICTORIAN HAND PAINTED SILK LARGE PHOTOGRAPH FRAME

Old photographs are wonderful. An accurate portrait of a real human from another time, who’d otherwise be lost to the past. This wonderful late Victorian/Edwardian gentleman doesn’t look out of place among the blossoms. This lovely large silk covered frame is hand painted with spring blossoms and protected under glass. The silk is fraying with age in places but the back is in good original condition with an old cord handing (probably not original). I wonder what he really thought of it? (47cm x 45cm) £45

HALLMARKED STERLING SILVER EDWARDIAN PHOTOGRAPH FRAME

This lovely photograph frame is mounted with sterling silver hallmarked Birmingham 1914 by G & C Ltd and contains a cabinet card photo of the famous music hall star Florrie Forde. STUNNING 1920S PARKIN AND MARSHALL SILVER PLATED TEA POT WITH BONE FINIAL

Parkin and Marshall of Sheffield were knife makers and cutlers throughout the 19th century and joined the electroplating revolution in the 1860s. This gloriously elegant teapot from their XLALL range is in wonderful condition complete with the original bone finial. I’ve seen more ornate versions of this but I love the clean lines that date it to probably the late teens to early 1920s. £45

VICTORIAN TAPESTRY PIN CUSHION WITH STUMPWORK EMBROIDERY AND TASSELS

A charming piece of Victoriana, this is a pretty pin cushion made from a piece of stumpwork embroidered tapestry and pink plush with tassels. Possibly the tapestry is older, which would make sense as old textiles could be cut down to use for other uses. Some small repairs to the back so it could be restored gently or left with the patina its years have earned. £30

LARGE ANTIQUE FABRIC COVERED HAT PIN CUSHION

While you might find this one a little large for sewing pins, it’s a perfect dressing table addition for hat pins and even better for a hat pin collector to use as display. In a woven blue and gold fabric and topped with a piece of antique machine lace which may be older than the cushion itself. Excellent overall condition. 7” across and 3” high. £12

ANTIQUE HAT PIN CUSHION WITH CREWEL EMBROIDERY

This is a charming and solidly made hat pin cushion that’s also not too big so you could use it for sewing pins as well. It may even have been embroidered by one of them! 5” across and 2.75” high. £15

SOLID METAL ANTIQUE CAT PIN CUSHION

One for the cat lovers and pin cushion collectors! If this were silver we’d be talking big money but this is a solid pot-metal. He is absolutely charming however and has some age and patina. He’s also sadly been in the wars and has lost a back foot. This doesn’t detract from his charm or trouble his balance at all though. He’s a resilient little fellow! 1.6” high and 2.75” long. £18

The Chesterman name became synonymous with top quality tools and measures and this is no exception. A brass retracting linen tailor’s tape measure in full working order. A safety pin has been added to stop the end getting lost as it may be missing a piece. The press button retractor works perfectly! £16
